<1/3 grip
Tundra
Fogbound valleys, grey rock and frozen lakes. On the ice your tracks get under a third of their usual grip, and a tank in motion stays in motion.

CYDONIS HEAVY INDUSTRIES
A tactical battle-tank game for the Nintendo 64. Every sector, model and sound is generated on the console from an eight-character code.

Above the cloud layer, The Spire keeps everything for itself. Below it lie the Slag Dunes: rusted sand, acid weather, and the scavenger tribes who refused to die there. The Warden Network's machines guard every scrap of energy The Spire harvests.
You drive a Ranger. The power is out there, and the machines are between you and it.
Drop in. The dropship sets you down in a sector built on the spot from its code: Tundra, Aztec Desert or Red Planet.
Find the cores. Power cores are scattered across the sector. The markers along the top of the screen fill in as you pick them up.
Carry them home. Every core adds 8% to your tank's mass and trims its top speed. A single hit worth more than 35% of your armour knocks one loose, so go back for it.
Bank and extract. Bank every core at the dropship to extract. Three stars means finishing under par (two minutes, plus one per core) with no cores lost and more than half your armour left.
A Class-X bio-neural siege engine, designed by The Spire and stolen by the scavengers. It carries a synthetic nervous system, and it needs two operators to run without destroying itself: a Gunner on the manual controls, and a Neural Pilot wired into its core.
Safe operating range.
Keep your front to the enemy. Sides take 30% more damage and the rear 60% more. Catch a machine cresting a ridge and its belly takes double.
A direct hit low on a tank's side cuts that track to 40% power for two and a half seconds.
<1/3 grip
Fogbound valleys, grey rock and frozen lakes. On the ice your tracks get under a third of their usual grip, and a tank in motion stays in motion.
4× resistance
Sand has four times the rolling resistance of rock. Keep your momentum.
0.6 g
Real Mars has 0.38 g; the Red Planet runs at 0.6 g for playability. Shells fly further here.
J(r) = J0 / (1 + (r/r0)2)
Blast impulse falls off as a Lorentzian: inverse-square far from the impact, but finite at its centre, with half the impulse at r0. Blasts don't care whose shell it was, so keep your distance from your own impacts. Every shot kicks back, too: respect the recoil on a steep slope.
